Interview
with who?
- Cordelia Ka'Dracor
part 2
What is your role on Elephant
Mud?
Well. Which role would you like to start
with? I'm an Arch, a Guild Wizard, Head of External Development, and Head of
Area Development. So, add all those together and as Arch I've access to bug
fix, help players with issues and problems and traumas and pretty much handle
anything thrown my way. I'm part of the sanity checking team, and Those Who
Must Be Sworn At.
As a Guild Wiz I watch over the Clerics. I persuaded the Gods to resurface in
their lives, built them a new Church, help them discover new miracles, and generally
adore them all. Whether they want me to or not.
External Development is a fun job. I wrote, designed and now update this
webpage, trying to bring as much of the internal Ele world into the outside
one for all to see.
Area Dev means I look over submitted area plans from the wizards and work with
approval to ensure that the direction of the realm never gets overwhelmed with
Forests O Doom, or out of genre stuff. I'm also on hand to see that the morale
(hopefully) of those coding never dips below usual area coding trauma. I (loftily)
try to be there for as many people as possible.
Where did you get the inspiration
for the Elemud Web page?
I don't quite know. I'd worked with webpages
for two years or so and had always loved sites which contain the right atmospheric
for the subject matter. I like sites which let you tootle about them. Sites
that let you delve into them and get a snapshot of the personalities and people
behind it all. So the look and feel just sprang at me immediately in a
scribble on a piece of paper. The old site also had a pink elephant background
and it was more than I could bear to contemplate Larnen using it again. *grin*
How many hours a week would
you say you spend on Elephant Mud?
Not as many as I used to, since work demands
the higher percentage of my time, but I still would say I average about 25-30
hours a week there. It's shattering sometimes, but worth it.
What is your fondest Elephant
Mud memory?
I have many. However, the main one these
days is November 99, when we brought New Town (tm) online. It was a monstrous
effort for all involved, 3 months full of 16 hours a day logged in, working
hard and testing and fixing and writing. The thrill of seeing the players watch
the town go out in comet fury, and then come back to find the world has turned
to 20 years later and they're in a massive brand new town, was outstanding.
So worth the pain and late nights/early mornings.
What is your favourite
thing about Elephant mud?
The passion and enthusiasm it brings. Not
just to me, but to those who work on it, and play there. Live there, practically.
I guess this answer could almost be a thesis, but I'll leave it at that.
What do you dislike most
about Elephant mud?
I think it's less dislike, and more miss.
What do I miss? I miss playing and fighting. Oh, I still do play, but it's not
the same. Now I'm always thinking about improvements and whether something works
as well as we thought it did, and that sort of thing. I don't get to throw myself
into a kill-fest and roar clerical abuse at evil.
